Biodesign Institute appoints McLeod to director of facility services
The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University has appointed Michael McLeod as director of facility services. In this role, he will oversee facility improvements, maintenance, space management, security, and shipping and receiving.

“Mike was instrumental in much of the construction planning for the Biodesign facility, so he knows the institute inside and out,” said Jeffrey Darbut, director of finance and operations at the Biodesign Institute. “By bringing him to the institute, his 30 years of facilities administration experience will assist us in completing two additional buildings.”
McLeod previously worked within ASU’s central Facilities Department and has been at ASU for six years. Most recently, he served as the interim associate director of the capital programs management group. He coordinated design, construction and move-in phases of ASU’s largest research buildings, including Biodesign’s Buildings A and B, and the Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building V.
Previously, McLeod had been general manager of site services with Intel Corp., where he worked for 16 years in the company’s Chandler, Ariz., and Santa Clara, Calif., locations. He directed the development of Intel’s Chandler campus that included office, warehouse, and semiconductor fabrication facilities. While in Santa Clara, McLeod directed site operations for three Intel campuses: corporate headquarters, the company’s largest research/development fabrication facility, and two production fabrication facilities.
For five years, McLeod followed his passion for cars and served as president of Hot Heads Research, a small business venture in Gold Canyon, Ariz., that designed and manufactured engine components for vintage Chrysler Hemi engines. He coordinated manufacturing of 45 aluminum engine component of his own design.
McLeod earned a BS in Industrial Technology from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He obtained accreditation by the US Green Building Council in Leadership in Environmental Engineering and Design. In addition, he is a member of the Project Management Institute.
The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University comprises 350,000 sq. ft. of advanced research space. The research focuses on creating personalized medical diagnostics and treatments, outpacing infectious disease, cleaning the environment, developing alternative energy sources, and enhancing national security.
