Biodesign Institute appoints seasoned finance professional to lead operations

The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University has announced Jeffrey Darbut, MBA, as director of finance and operations. Darbut brings 30 years of business experience and financial acumen to the institute.

Darbut will oversee many aspects of the Biodesign Institute’s operations, including finance, human resources, facilities, security and health and safety.

“Jeff comes to the Biodesign Institute with an extensive management background,” said Michael Tracy, DPhil, deputy director of the institute. “His expertise in financial strategy and process improvements will be a great asset to us, as our staff has grown to nearly 600 in just a few years.”

Prior to this appointment, Darbut was a partner with Tatum LLC, a national financial consulting firm. He has worked in finance, program management, business development, strategy and compliance for such companies as SPX Corporation, Parker-Hannifin Corporation, and Honeywell International.

Darbut is a director at two privately held companies: SoundQuest Inc., a medical device company, and Knittle Inc., a property management services organization. He is a member of the Financial Executives Institute, the Institute of Management Accountants, Finance Leaders Association, and the ASU Alumni Association.

After earning a BS in accounting from the University of Pittsburgh, Darbut went on to obtain an MBA from ASU.

The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University improves human health and quality of life through team-based innovation in health care, energy and the environment, global public health, and enhanced national security. By fusing bioscience/biotechnology, nanoscale engineering and advanced computing, the Biodesign Institute focuses on deliverables to benefit of both current and future generation. It also educates future scientists by providing hands-on laboratory research experience to more than 250 students per semester.
